Stewardship Sunday: Walt Whitman Birthplace

  • Walt Whitman Birthplace Association 246 Old Walt Whitman Road Huntington Station, New York, 11746 United States (map)

Help the NY State Parks LI Environmental Education program remove invasive weeds from in and around the Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site.

Join at the Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site to help remove English Ivy and other invasive weeds from the grounds.

This program is available for all ages 14 and up. Anyone younger may join if accompanied by their parent/guardian.

Meeting Time: 11:00am - 1:30pm

Parking Instructions: We will meet inside the entrance of the interpretive center just off to the side. Parking at the historic site is limited and tight, so please carpool if possible! If there is no available parking there should be a parking lot next to the Whitman lot where you can park instead. Please be aware that while the site looks like it's connected to Walt Whitman Road it is actually only enterable from Old Walt Whitman Road, so don't go too fast along the NY-110 otherwise you might pass it without realizing! It's easier to drive southbound or by cutting across from Schwab Road, otherwise you won't have an easy turning lane if traffic is heavier than expected.
